Contest’s Rules for “Foreign Students

 

Speaking Chinese” in 2014

 

1. Objective: the contest is held on Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s birthday (November 12th) to commemorate his great career and improve foreign students’ recognition of Sunology, Chinese language and Chinese culture.

2. Qualification: Foreign students at lease 18 years of age without ROC nationality are qualified.
a. In order to encourage new applicants, the winners of 2013 are not eligible to compete again.
b. The members registering in groups are limited to a maximum of 4 persons.
c. All contestants must agree to being recorded by the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, it may be published on the Hall’s publication and website, and must also agree to allow other institutes to download it.
d. Due to fairness, all contestants whose parent’s first language is Chinese are not eligible to compete.

3. Registration Period: From today to October 13, 2014 (Monday), please send the registration form, stamped with an official seal of approval from your school, within registration period to the following address: No.505, Sec.4, Ren-ai Rd., Taipei. We cannot accept registration via fax, but you can download the registration form from our website. (http://www.yatsen.gov.tw/ )

4. Total Number of Applicants: The total number of applicants will be limited to 90, based on first come first serve. We will stop accepting applications once we reach 90. The list of contestants will be posted on the website.


5. Speech Topics: (choose one)
a. 人生以服務為目的-談在臺灣的經驗 The purpose of life is service, the service experience in Taiwan.
b. 博愛-談「愛」無國界 Fraternity -”Love” without Bolder
c. 為什麼我喜歡來臺灣學中文   Why I choose Taiwan to learn Chinese?

6. Date: November 11, 2014 (Tuesday) 9AM


7. Location: The Lecture Hall of National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall (No.505, Sec.4, Ren-ai Rd., Taipei)


8. Competition Day Procedures: All participants should arrive between 8:00-8:45 on November 11th (Tuesday). If you are late, you will be disqualified. Competition order, according to registration date, will be made public on the “Latest News” section of Memorial Hall’s website before October 30, 2014.


9. Standard of Grading: content 40%, posture 20%, expression 30%, time-control 10% (The time limit is suggested to be between 4-5 minutes. A bell will be rung once at 4 minutes, then twice at 5 minutes. If the speech surpasses 6 minutes, the bell will be rung three times and one point will be deducted for every additional minute over the time limit.)

10. Sixteen prize winners will be selected and awarded with certificate and prize money on the spot. According to the tax law of R.O.C., the prize winner shall receive the net amount after deducting 20% withholding tax of the prize money. Otherwise it would be taken as a waiver and disqualification.
